My Boys

All of our Males have been DNA tested for the prcd-PRA form of PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy). Results are posted below!!!

“The Optigen/Paw Print Genetics prcd-PRA test is a DNA-based test that helps you avoid one form of Progressive Retinal Atrophy(PRA). PRA refers to a group of diseases that cause the retina of the eye to degenerate slowly over time. The result is declining vision and eventual blindness.” At this time there is No treatment or cure for prcd-PRA. In Order for a puppy to develop this disease the puppy MUST inherit 1 copy of the prcd-PRA gene from the Sire(Male) and 1 copy of the prcd-PRA gene from the Dam(Female). My Males do not carry the gene that causes the prcd-PRA form of PRA. I have also DNA tested my girls for prcd-PRA to prevent the birth of any puppies affected with prcd-PRA. Please see my girls page for their test results!!

We are currently using Embark Vet Services to DNA test our dogs for the genes they have linked to certain diseases affecting the Cocker Spaniel breed. This testing will help us in our quest to produce healthier puppies!!

Please understand there are still LIMITS to DNA testing!!

At this time DNA testing for Cataracts, Glaucoma and Cancers is NOT available!!
